What should I do following my treatment?
-Many Endodontic procedures are performed to relieve the pain of toothaches caused by inflammation or infection. With modern techniques and anesthetics most patients report that they are comfortable during the procedure.

-For the first few days after treatment, your tooth may feel sensitive, especially if there was pain or infection before the procedure. This discomfort can be relieved with over-the-counter or prescription medications. Follow your Endodontist instructions carefully.

-Your tooth may continue to feel slightly different from your other teeth for some time after your Endodontic treatment is completed. However, if you have severe pain or pressure, or pain that lasts more than a few days, please call our office.
520-322-0800.

Also you can expect a call from one of us the day after your treatment to check on you and answer any questions you may have.

.How will I feel after the Root Canal?
You should feel fine after the root canal and should be able to return to your normal activities. You can expect the area to be numb for an hour or two after treatment.
Once the numbness wears off, you may experience some tenderness around the tooth.

Amy, and others on our staff are delighted to follow up on your procedure with a phone call the next day.

Why do I need a crown (cap)?
Once a tooth has had a root canal it becomes very dry and brittle, making it more susceptible to fracture. Covering the tooth with a crown (cap) helps protect it. If your tooth already has a crown, you may only need a permanent filling. Your general dentist will determine what type of permanent restoration will be best for you.

Is this going to hurt?
Your comfort is our primary concern. We anesthetize the tooth in the same way your general dentist would when placing a filling. Most patients tell us that the root canal was easier than some fillings they have had in the past.

Are you going to take the root out?
No. The root stays intact. It is actually the nerves and blood vessels inside the root that are removed during a root canal.

Do I need antibiotics?
It is possible that you will need antibiotics. The root canal treatment removes the source of the infection.
All of our Doctors , take their time
to ensure their patients comfort.

Your body’s natural immune system will usually take care of any residual bacteria. Antibiotics are prescribed for circumstances when the body needs help in this process. The doctor will make this decision after evaluating and treating the tooth.

What kind of sterilization procedures do you use?
Each instrument used for treatment in our office is sterilized.  Every item has been carefully pre-cleaned, dried, packaged and treated in an autoclave at 265 degrees with 25 PSI for 15 minutes or more. Hand pieces are sprayed with disinfectant and are sterilized in a cassette autoclave.

To ensure proper operation, our autoclave sterilizers are monitored weekly by the company Sterilizer Monitoring System, Madison Heights, Michigan.

Your operatory has also been prepared just for you. Every touchable surface has been
pre-cleaned, sprayed and wiped down with hospital level disinfectant in accordance with OSHA and CDC (Center for Disease Control) specifications,
eliminating any chance of
cross-contamination.  This office has completed a thorough training program designed to assure compliance with the requirements of OSHA’s regulations on infection and hazard control.

Can I drive myself home?
Yes, you will be fine to drive. (Unless you have had some type of sedation.)

How long will the procedure take?
The amount of time a procedure takes depends on the details of the procedure you’re having and the type of tooth involved. We estimate your time in the office to last approximately 1 to 2 hours.

What type of foods can I eat?
In most cases you can eat whatever you feel comfortable eating. Because the tooth will be tender for several days, you may feel better chewing on the side opposite of the treated area.

How long do I have to wait before I can eat?
Depending on the type of procedure you have, the doctor may recommend you wait 30 to 60 minutes before consuming beverages or food.

You should be fine to return to normal activities.
